ENTERPRISE EUROPE YORKSHIRE 3 DAY EVENT

A DANISH PERSPECTIVEon the Enterprise Europe Yorkshire 3 Day Event from Thomas C. Andersen Project Manager – EU Center/Enterprise Europe Network in Denmark

WE FELT IT NECESSARY TO GIVE OUR DANISH VISITORS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE US SOME FEEDBACK ON THE EVENT SOWE LET THOMAS DO THE TALKING...

The UK represents a great opportunity in the coming years for the offshore wind sector, establishing vast offshore wind farms. The Danish wind power sector has in many ways been (and is) in the frontline of wind energy. Therefore a match of UK companies and Danish companies seems obvious from the perspective of both parties.

This formed the starting point for the co- operation between Targeting Innovation in the UK and EU Center in Denmark, both part of the Enterprise Europe Network – a network established by the European Commission with the purpose of linking businesses and opportunities across borders. The two organisations have, with very close co-operation with several local and regional UK partners and the Danish Wind Energy Group, unfolded activities and contacts during 2010 with more likely to come.

The co-operation started with a very well attended offshore wind seminar in Herning, Denmark in late February 2009. At the seminar the UK offshore wind projects were presented alongside a number of interested UK companies.

Recently a study trip to the Yorkshire and Humber region was carried out 1-3 September with the participation of 9 Danish wind companies. The purpose of the three-day trip was to give a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the opportunities in the rapidly growing UK offshore wind sector and to have individual meetings between Danish and UK companies. The trip was a true success with very satisfied Danish participants and an amazing interest shown by UK companies to meet with potential future co-operation partners.

I am really impressed by the interest shown by the UK companies, both to meet with Danish companies but also their eagerness and willingness to invest time and effort to play a part in the offshore wind sector. The opportunities and capacity is certainly there and with a co-operation with well established and experienced Danish wind sector partners the capacity and opportunity can be turned into real life business with long term effect for all involved.

I hope that this can contribute to the continued fostering of real partnership between UK and Danish companies and we are more than willing to contribute in any way possible in that process.

Further activities with the purpose of bringing together UK and Danish companies are in the pipeline and will continue.
