Megan Mullally and Supreme Music Program Back by popular demand—the one, the only. . . Megan

Mullally! Not too long ago, she originated the role of Frau Blucher in a musical version of Young Frankenstein on Broadway. Center audiences had the pleasure of experiencing her sold-out Cabaret debut a few seasons ago. What they discovered was that on top of being a hilarious comedian, she is also multi-talented star with an incredibly versatile singing voice. Runs October 7 through 10 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Tickets: 714.556.2787 or ocpac.org.

The Phantom of the Opera – The Farewell Tour It is the longest-running musical in Broadway history with musical compo- sition adapted by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Phantom holds the title of the most successful entertainment venture of the twentieth century. Christine is a beautiful and gifted young woman longing to perform with the company at a Paris Opera House. During a rehearsal for one of the opera’s grand productions, a freak accident occurs as a backdrop falls and crashes to the ground, nearly crushing leading lady Carlotta. Several members of the company suggest to the theatre’s eager new managers that this could be the work of the “Phantom of the Opera,” a spectral presence said to haunt the building. Now through Oc- tober 31 at The Pantages Theatre, 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood. Tickets: 800.982.2787, Box Office, Ticketmaster or BroadwayLA.org.

there, Ishmael suffers from Gay Attention Deficit Disorder. The growing epidemic is a condition that leaves gay men unable to stay focused on any trend for more then a few weeks. A hilarious, intimate evening in which the characters explore their views on love, the challenges of contemporary gay life, and above all, the essential fabulosity of being gay. When Garbo Talks At the dawn of Hollywood’s Golden Age, Greta Garbo coined the phrase

“I want to be alone!” She later clarified “I never said, ‘I want to be alone.’ I only said, ‘I want to be left alone’; there is a difference.” When Garbo Talks is set to music within the back drop of vaudevillian days of the 1920s chronicling the transition from silent movies through the leap to talking pictures. In the begin- ning, 17-year-old Swedish acting student, Greta Gustafsson is discovered by Sweden’s genius film director, Mauritz Stiller. Hearts break and careers of oth- ers plummet as film idol Greta Garbo (name change) rises to become MGM’s biggest international star and one of the supreme screen actresses of the 1930s and 40s. Runs October 12 through November 7 at the International City Theatre, Long Beach Performing Arts Center, 300 East Ocean Blvd., Long Beach. Tickets: 562.4364610 or InternationalCityTheatre.org.

Review to View: GOURMET DETECTIVE: FINE FOOD, FUN AND FOUL-PLAY

By tony reverditto Get Cartier is the current Gourmet

Detective offering at the Balboa Inn location which has been in the food and murder business since 1990. The action takes place in the French Rivera in 1962, where four former comrades- in-arms and their loved ones gather for a birthday bash. Unbeknownst to the guests (that would potentially be you), the party is actually a smokescreen for a reprehensible scheme involving priceless jewels, an insurance scam and . . . murder! As soon as we were shown to our seats, one by one the characters came over, introduced themselves to us and the mayhem begun shortly there- after. Before we knew it, we were in the middle of a murder scene surrounded by suspects and the actors in character actually served a three-course dinner amidst the pandemonium. The multi-talented cast were equally

strong and include Tisha Bellantuoni, Steven Biggs, Micah Delhauer,

Lisa

Enochs, Elisabeth Lindsey, Bob May and John K. Wilson. The voluptuous Elisabeth Lindsey stood out as she performed some entertaining musical numbers, accompanied by pianist, Tom Shelton, who also did a great job playing

melodramatic background

music. The characters are blackmailed; someone needs to admit to the murder or there will be hell to pay. In traditional murder mystery fashion, it was up to the now-involved audience members to figure out whodunit? This is where I’ll never tell. The production is filled with fun characters who put their all into the evening’s festivities. Get Cartier runs Friday’s and Sat-

urday’s at 8:00 p.m. Located at The Balboa Inn, 105 Main St. Newport Beach. Tickets for dinner show and/ or hotel packages at 866.992.5424 or gourmetdetective.com.
