Major Change to R & R is Announced

nder new policy guidelines,


personnel serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq of six months or more will continue to receive two weeks mid- tour leave, but now with a guarantee that any days lost in transit delays or for other operational reasons, will be made up at the end of the tour. Tose on tour of less than four months will not receive R & R.

families of Service personnel through the inquest process has been launched by the Royal British Legion. The Independent Inquest Advice is provided by professionally- qualified lawyers through what can be a confusing and frustrating process at an already difficult and painful time.

OFSTED Has Now Put it in Writing


W


e reported in January 10 that


taking your children out of school during post operational leave would now be documented at the school as an authorised absence rather than an unauthorised one. We received many calls asking for the reference to this as many schools were not aware of the new guidelines. OFSTED have now published the relevant lines in their Schools Report. Welsh and Scottish education authorities have yet to confirm their policies.

Tis is Taranis... A


prototype unmanned combat aircraft of the future, Taranis has


been unveiled by the MoD. Named after the Celtic god of thunder, the


concept demonstrator will test the possibility of developing the first ever autonomous stealth Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) that would be capable of precisely striking targets at long range.


THE TRI SERVICE FIJI SUPPORT NETWORK A


Tri Service Fiji Support Network has been launched to act as a


conduit on policy, information and dialogue between the MoD and Fijians serving in the UK Armed Forces. Major Mike Nawaqaliva said, “It has formalised the dream. We are at an era where some of our children are following our footsteps into the Armed Forces and the older generation need to build bridges for those that will follow us.”


Midwives say People Need to Know

he FSA have responded to requests from midwives to


provide information on the financial implications for those who have suffered a late miscarriage or stillbirth, or whose baby has died within four weeks of birth. Te FSA have made the information available in one location, it covers what needs to be done and what, if any, financial assistance is available.

mile’ recorded by the talented and


spirited children of ‘Voice In A Million’ is being released to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The songs are a mix of evocative songs from 1940 and more recent songs as a tribute to those who have served and those serving now. The children are singing songs for their great grandparents, grandparents and, in some cases, their parents.
