Cedar Run Horse Trials August 29th, 2010

At the Cedar Run Horse Park – 318 Clark Street, Clarksburg

What is a Horse Trial?

A horse trial, or one-day event, is a test for horse and rider that consists of:

1-DRESSAGE: tests the gaits, supple- ness and obedience of the horse through a series of prescribed movements. While judging the Dressage Test is based on specific criteria, it is basically an evaluation of beauty of movement and obedience.

2-CROSS-COUNTRY: proves the speed, stamina, courage, boldness and jumping ability of the horse and the rid- er's knowledge of pace and use of the horse across country. Although the rider walks the course beforehand, the horse doesn't see any of the course until it leaves the start box.

small children, as you will not be able to give them your full attention.

What to bring?

You don’t need to bring anything at all, we typically stock such items as fly spray, suntan lotion, water, lunch, etc. However for your own comfort we have found that you can increase your enjoyment of the day if you take some time to organize a few belongings in a small backpack. Here are some items to think about:

• Rain gear (check weather-we run the show rain or shine!) No umbrellas please!

• Baseball cap or hat.

• Dress in layers (weather often varies throughout the day) • Sunscreen • Sunglasses

3-STADIUM JUMPING: held in an arena, this is a test of the horse's athletic ability, conditioning and training. The stadium-jumping test is a matter of jumping the obstacles cleanly. The horse must now move at a more sedate pace and not touch the obstacles, which are not solid and will fall down.

What to expect?

Unless advised otherwise, plan to stay for the day and for the after-party. It is not ideal to bring along pets or

• Small snacks such as trail mix, fruit, granola bars ( we do provide a great complimentary lunch, however you may wish to snack throughout the day!) • Lawnchair
