celebration in Beech featured the annual parade, patriotic program, a community luncheon and games. Dr. William Winkenwerder, the


former assistant secretary of de- fense for health affairs in the U.S. Department of Defense, spoke dur- ing the program. Winkenwerder, an Asheville native, gave a short speech entitled “Te Importance of Discipline in a Changing World.” Other area politicians in atten- dance included Rep. Susan Fisher and Buncombe County Commis- sioner Chair David Gantt.
