one of the most important factors in a child’s success at school. Learning builds day by day. A child who misses a day of school
misses a day of learning. Also, cur- rent teaching techniques make it very difficult for students to make up the learning experiences they miss when they are late or not in at- tendance. Weaverville Primary School is one
of a number of schools taking steps to increase attendance rates and lim- it students being tardy. At the end of each nine-week peri-
od, students with perfect attendance and no unexcused tardies are rec- ognized. At the end of each school year, WPS highlights students who have made the outstanding effort to

attend school each day. In the 2009-2010 school year,
kindergarten student Wiley Cole re- ceived perfect attendance. Te faith- ful attendance awards were given to students who missed three days or less.
