By Loren Metts Tis is a special year for North

Asheville Baptist Church as it cele- brates its 100th year of ministry. “We are thankful for our history and are excited about our future,” Pastor Jim Dykes said. “God has certainly been faithful to this church throughout the years.” NABC first began in 1910 as a mis-

sion church of First Baptist Church of Asheville. Te congregation met on Forsythe Street in the Montford area for several decades. Te church relocated in 1972 to Broadway near UNC-Asheville.

again relocated to its current location on Reynolds Mountain Boulevard. Te church experienced remarkable growth over the next five years, result- ing in the construction of its larger multi-purpose building currently used for worship. As church growth con- tinued, NABC purchased 100 acres of relocation property in 2005. Tis land is located off of I-26 north of Weaver- ville at the Flat Creek exit. Te church is currently in the planning and design phases of its future worship site. Dykes and his wife Tracey have been

serving at NABC since 1989. Origi- nally from the Enka-Candler area, Dykes was pastor at Georgetown Bap- tist Church in the Leicester commu- nity prior to coming to NABC. Dykes has lead the church through a decade of tremendous growth, making it one of the largest churches in the Asheville area. NABC offers a contemporary style of worship each Sunday morn- ing and Wednesday night, with Life- group discipleship opportunities held throughout the week. NABC is extremely missions-mind-

ed, both locally and abroad. One of its central focuses is church planting.

In 2006, NABC started

Life Fellowship in Bryson City. Cros- spoint Baptist, the church’s second plant, also began in 2009 in Jonesbor- ough, Tenn. Another unique focus of NABC is

Christian education through North Asheville Christian School. Estab-

lished in 1999, NACS currently in- cludes nearly 200 students ranging from K3-12th grade. NABC supports the ongoing min-
