The best of Time Off in Cornwall
Here’s our very personal choice of five of the best events worth a trip out to see in Cornwall over the next few weeks
1. BAT PATROL AT LANHYDROCK, BODMIN 28th May 9.30pm - 10.45pm
A late start for this event but there’s a good reason as there’s a chance for an evening walk with the estate team at Lanhydrock to discover the rare bat species that thrive at the famous Cornish country house. Entrance is £5 - £2 for children and even though it’s in late May you are asked to wear warm outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Booking is essential on 01208 265950. Also at Lanhydrock from 29th May to 6th June every day there’s a garden nature trail from 11am to 4pm.
2. FAMILY FUN DAY Trevarno Gardens, Crowntown, nr Helston – 2nd June Trevano Gardens has great reputation for putting on the style when it comes to family events and they are holding a Family Fun Day from 10.30am
to 4pm. Details on 01326 574274. The gardens which include the National Museum of Gardening has a woodland adventure play area and treasure trail walks. Normal entry charges of £6.85 for adults and £2.40 for children under 14 apply.
3. ROYAL CORNWALL SHOWGROUND Wadebridge Thursday 10th to Saturday 12th June
For three days each year the showground at Wadebridge is transformed into a living town, bustling with life,
energy, agriculture, entertainment and trade. It is a significant event on the Cornish calendar with well over 110,000 people attending. Main Attractions include - flower show - bees - honey & home made wine - forestry section - cage birds - food & farming marquee - equine - dog section - steam fair - poultry - pigeons - market stalls and exhibitions.

4. THE LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN AT NIGHT – a photographic workshop
27th and 28th May
Internationally renowned photographer, Linda Rutenberg, is offering
an exclusive photographic workshop. The night time photography workshop begins on Thursday 27th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, when you can experience the delights of a living night time studio. Join Linda and her husband, the lighting expert Roger Leeon, in Heligan’s historic Northern Gardens where Linda will be sharing techniques for capturing images of plants, flowers and gardens by night. A follow up and critique is on the following afternoon of Friday 28th from 3pm to 5pm.
5. GARDEN TOUR - MOUNT EDGCUMBE HOUSE & COUNTRY PARK Cremyll, Torpoint 23rd June
Mount Edgcumbe has been famous since the 18th
century for its landscape and gardens and this formal garden tour is a real opportunity to see it at its best. The park covers over 800 acres and scattered throughout the park are buildings - Thomson’s Seat, Milton’s Template, the Folly, the Arch - consciously sited to create views and atmosphere. 1.30pm.
