Yankee Marine in Yarmouth has had a very busy winter.
Some of the projects they did this winter include: They repowered a CC 40. They re- moved a Westerbeke and replaced it with a Yanmar 3YM 30 diesel. A Brono Stillman 42 lobster boat was also in to be repower. She had her 400-hp Yanmar, which was replaced with a 567-hp C-9 Caterpillar diesel. A 46-foot Newman pleasure cruiser was and had all her windows replaced with Bomon windows, which they said was a pleasure to deal with. They also did a lot of brightwork on her. A Detling 48 was in and had her topsides painted along with mechanical upgrades. A 53-foot sailboat was in for deck repair. She suffered from cracks in the gel-coat, which was then repainted. They also repainted a 362 Sabre. A 36-foot Luhrs sport fish and a J-44 each had a Fisher Panda generator installed. A Tayana 52 was in to have her mast step replaced. She also suffered from a lot of wet core issues which was all taken out and repaired.
Approximately 185 boats are stored at the yard and everyone needs something done to be ready for the season and this will
keep the workers at Yankee Marina hopping!
In Yarmouth Greene Marine has just done a major cosmetic job on a Loch Crowther designed 42-foot catamaran. This cosmetic job included painting the deck and topsides. She also had some repair work done, which included a delaminated cabin top, some other fiberglass work and two new daggerboards. The GREENE is a power cat designed by Walter Greene to be used in the shallows of the Inter-coastal waterways. She was started in January 2009 and was launched 11 months later. Her power is twin 8-hp Honda out- boards.
Last November they launched a 30- footer for a customer. Greene Marine built the hull and the owner finished the interior before she was launched. She developed some rig problems and was over at the Royal River Boat Yard to repair them.
Another project was adding a center console and spray rails on a Pointer.
Journey’s End Marina in Rockland has been busy this winter.
One of the major repair jobs this winter was on a Duffy 48, which had her house top extended and was certified by the U. S. Coast Guard to carry passengers. They were going t get all they could get done this winter, but she will be back next winter for some addi- tional work.
A 58-foot sailboat was in the shop to have her teak decks removed. They then Awlgripped the decks, painted the hull and redid her brightwork.
BARBARA ANN was in for a diesel electric package. This consisted of a Westerbeke generator to a DC drive and custom gear box, which Borg Warner was building. There was also a lot of electrical and battery work needed to make this system work properly. Also she had some plumbing work done.
Over the winter they have done a lot of repowers, and have picked up several in the last couple of months. The number of new engines sold has been significantly better than the previous year.
Recently Journey’s End acquired a 57,000 square foot building in Rockland, which they will be using for storage. At this point they can store any boat under 14 feet in height and already people ae calling to re- serve space for next season.
