The Rage Monthly: How long have you been living in San Diego?
Tim: I’m originally from Oregon, but after eight years living in Los Angeles, (temporary insanity), I finally became human again and moved to San Diego two years ago. Couldn’t have made a better decision!
AT REDWING IN NORTH PARK YOUR “HAPPY-GO-LUCKY”
BARTENDER
Rage: What made you pursue bartending at Redwing?
Tim: From the first week I moved to San Diego, I was lucky enough to stumble across this North Park gem. After meeting several of the colorful characters who work and hang out there, I knew it would be my kind of family to hopefully squeeze in to.
Rage: How long have you been working there?
Tim: My maiden voyage began the day after Thanksgiving last year. I think that’s the day I flooded the bar floor. Gotta love first days, right?
Rage: What days of the week can we find you serving up drinks at Redwing?
Tim: I work the “hair of the dog” mornings for a killer happy hour. You know Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You’ll also see me as the little whip- ping boy on Friday and Saturday nights. Some people call it barbacking, I suppose.
Rage: Do you have any specialty cocktails that you would like to mention?
Tim: People really seem to enjoy my “blowjobs” for some strange reason, go figure. I prefer making my signature “blue balls” for people though. Oddly
enough...people really seem to like them too.
Rage: What do you enjoy most about working at Redwing?
Tim: That’s an easy one, getting to know all the peeps who bounce on in. I genuinely love hearing all the different life stories from the cartoon characters who come and visit us. I find people fascinating and hilarious. I think that we attract a lot of them to Red- wing. I also love the fact that I’m becoming a part of North Park history with Redwing being the oldest bar in North Park after 30 years.
Rage: Are there any special events planned in June?
Tim: We have two of our biggest annual events coming up this month. On Friday, the 18th at 7:00 p.m., we have our huge fourth anniversary party commemorating Sarah Critchlow’s ownership. There’s going to be an amazing free buffet and sushi bar, as well as a naughty little show to go along with lots of other fun stuff. Then, on Saturday the 26th, we are having our 1970s and 1980s Disco Prom. This one will be a crazy one as well, especially if your high school prom blew as much as mine did. Crap, I need a date!
Rage: Can you tell us about some of the weekly happenings going on at Redwing?
Tim: We always have an awesome daily happy hour until 6:00 p.m. This month in June however, we’re going to be launching even bigger and better drink specials. It’s a sur- prise! Karaoke is always popular on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Whether you’re a John Legend or a John Goodman it’s all good. Whether it’s day or night, there’s always something poppin’ off at Redwing.
Rage: When you’re not working and have some downtime, what are some of the things you enjoy doing?
Tim: I’m all about the outdoors and everything that comes with it. I love to camp, hike, go rafting, water skiing, take my dog to the beach or bike, etc. I think I just like getting dirty sometimes (I heard that snicker). I also love to travel. Just got back from a 12-day cruise and I’m about to head back to Puerto Vallarta in October. Anyone wanna come?
Rage: What words do you think your friends would use to describe you?
Tim: Wow, this one’s kinda scary. They would for sure, say that I’m extremely loyal. I’d go to bat for any of my friends if they ever needed. They’d also say that I am kinda loud (I think it’s an Oregon thing ingrained in my D.N.A.). Happy-go-lucky for sure and definitely rather goofy. They would say that I live to laugh and laugh to live. Life cracks me up, what can I say?
