Across the board, it seems that horses are getting flashier. Big blazes, white socks, and exceptional movement are all commonplace in Warmbloods today. But if blazes and socks aren’t enough bling, ‘colored’ sport horses are becoming more and more popular, popping up regularly in the dressage arena, on the cross-country course and in the show jumping ring.

“I was looking for a young Warmblood stallion,” says Tawna King of Golden Venture Farm. “He was the only colored one in the group I was looking at. In the video he was a really nice mover and the most correctly put together of the ones I was looking at.” The colt Tawna was looking at was Maxamillion, and little did she know that he would grow up to be her “one in a million” horse. ‘Max’ was born in Washington state in 2000. His

flashy buckskin tobiano coloring appealed to Tawna, but there was one other factor that sealed the deal: Max is a Dutch Warmblood with Saddlebred bloodlines. “What actually appealed to me about him was the Saddlebred sport horse breeding,” Tawna remarks.
