2. Get both a video and still photos. The video I received did not edit out any naughtiness. I saw him out in the arena at freedom, and the entire trot sequence before the judge. The still photos gave me several angles (and ages) to better see his conformation.
3. See if anyone you know has seen the horse, or who might know someone who has seen the horse.
4. Have your own vet review all the findings, notes, x-rays, etc. from the vet check. Don’t skimp on the cost of the vet check.

5. Get the honest opinion of your trainer. For that matter, get several opinions. This is important, because you absolutely need an impartial opinion. The sec- ond most important aspect is to take their criticism and not discount it just because you are enamored with the horse you see on the video. Then and only then can you make the best informed choice.
6. Have a written contract for sale.
Horses are always a risk. Rarely do they turn out exactly as we might expect, but five years later, I am thrilled with this stunning horse I now cherish. This is defi- nitely not the purchasing method for everyone, but if you must, these few rules might make your experience as positive as mine.
