hope and trust in his visually deprived world. The Valiant Trust believes that this bond can bring a strong positive message to our often technologically driven lifestyles.

The members of The Valiant Trust are dedicated to saving sight in horses and promoting the inherent link between horses and people. Horses are a vision-oriented species in which good visual capabilities and the ability to run are critical to their lifestyle.

growth and learning. Those with serous physical and/or mental illness will see tremendous benefits. Finally, the Valiant Scholarship Fund will work to support those individuals who help others, furthering their education through seminars and conferences. Another goal is supporting equine rescue programs.

Full Circle

Valiant and I continue to perform our freestyle and we enjoy it more than ever. Soon Valiant will have a new companion – I recently adopted a blind Quarter Horse rescued by “The Triumph Project,”an organization changing legislation and shutting down slaughter houses throughout the U.S. thanks to Victoria McCullough. Like Valiant, I know Tri (short for Triumph) will demonstrate the many things a blind horse can do especially as Victoria says about Valiant, “He is teaching us to see.”

Throughout my life, during reflective moments, I have yearned to be able to give back to the universe in some way. Doing the good that we can do, for all the right reasons, without ego com- ing from the pure, honest place within us can only result in har- mony and positive energy. Having patience and listening to that silent voice inside opens up a different way of communicating with feelings. Valiant has given me a mirror image of what I have given him. God willing, together we can give back in our own special way to all those horses and people who have given to us.

The horse eye becomes inflamed easily and often needs considerable help to speed healing. The scientific goals of The Valiant Trust are to produce data that explains the basic physiology and pathology of the horse eye, and to develop new treatment strategies to treat the complex eye problems of horses. Because the equine eye exhibits the worst case scenarios of eye disease, research spon- sored by The Valiant Trust will benefit horses, other animal species and perhaps even humans.

Our next focus for the trust will be the Valiant Equine Communication Network. Understanding the psychology, natural behavioral patterns, needs and individual tenden- cies of our equine friends is vital to good communication with them. Gifted individuals in the horse communication and training field such as John Lyons have a wealth of information to share. They are our communication transla- tors, teaching us how to listen. Their lifelong study of hors- es has raised the level of equine understanding and inter- action immensely. The goal of the network is to promote communication and education through horsemanship seminars, demonstrations and clinics. Education through demonstration is simply invaluable.

We have other initiatives that we support or plan to sup- port as funding becomes available. One is the training of companion guide dogs for visually challenged individuals. These wonderful animals nurture their owners spiritually and emotionally as well. Another is therapeutic riding, which provides so many benefits. A related endeavor is the Valiant Human Communication Network, which will focus on using horses as a tool for human emotional

Our story continues to unfold and the kindred souls continue to unite and grow daily. I’m not sure exactly where Valiant and I are headed, but we sure are enjoying the ride!
