This week’s Heroes of the Week are the men and women who do-
nated for a drive for Samaritan’s Purse. First Presbyterian Church in
Weaverville sponsored a local drive, known as Operation Christmas
Child. Phyllis Hammaker handmade 140 knit hats and area residents
donated roughly 100 shoeboxes stuffed with goodies for children of
all ages. A group from the church donated the gifts Tuesday (Nov.
24). Their collective drive to bring happiness during this holiday sea-
son is the reason why they are this week Heroes of the Week.
