As well as ensuring that the girls achieve thehighest possible standar
ds academically
, all girls ar
e
car
ed for thr
ough the str
ength of the pastoral
system.The initial car
e lies with the form teacher whose knowledge of
the girls in her car
e is exceptional. Pastoral lessons help the
girls to deal with those ar
ound them and, as they get older
,
pr
epar
es them to face the emotional and social challenges of
the wider world.Girls ar
e given the opportunity to assume r
esponsibility
. W
ithin
the class this takes the form of positions of r
esponsibility such
as Form and V
ice Form Captain. Each form member has the
chance to put herself forwar
d and all form members vote on a
termly basis. In Y
ear 6 the girls have additional r
esponsibility
posts which help with the day to day running of the JuniorSchool and they act as guides for visitors and on Open Days.An exciting new initiative is the establishment of a JuniorSchool Council, of
fering the girls a forum to expr
ess their ideas
about, for example, school envir
onment well-being,
playgr
ound activities and facilities.
An important part of the social life of the school is the housesystem. This enables the girls to mix with those of a dif
fer
ent
age gr
oup and allows the girls in Y
ear 6 to act as House and
V
ice House Captains. The House Captains hold r
egular house
meetings, collect and total the house points and help toor
ganise the girls to support events such as swim sports,
sports afternoons and the music competitions. House teachersmaintain an overview of the activities. P

in the Junior School to develop and enhance ourpupils’ ability to be logical, critical and cr

skills such as decision making, lateral thinking, mindmappingand interpr

The girls ar
e encouraged to gain a deeper understanding of
their own pr

a range of study and r

focus on encouraging those habits of mind – such as curiosity
,
r

child’

This initiative extends thr
oughout the school, with lessons and
courses planned for pupils fr
