SERVICES COUNCIL
SUMMARY
A
fter the 2008 AGM the Services Council, similar to the other FIA Councils, set itself some stretching targets.
Since then the Council and its working groups have been diligently working to meet them.
The targets were:

Identify industry specific tools (i.e. weighing scales) designed specifically to meet our PSC/I&MCS
industries needs
2 Review Service Exchange (portables) practices and identify guidance PSC
3 Draft standard for servicing of fire blankets PSC
4 Guidance for BS5306 Pt 3 & 8 to be drafted and published PSC

Continue to pursue the need for a National Examination Board for portable PSC
extinguisher technicians
6 Develop the careers roadmap I&MCS and Training Group
7 National Occupational Standard and NVQ framework revision & NVQ revision I&MCS and Training Group
8 Review and implement an Apprenticeship scheme I&MCS

Once job descriptions are agreed focus on each job/person and identify ‘tools’ or PSC/I&MCS
guidance that the association could provide to enhance that job function
10 Guidance on ‘Planned Preventative Maintenance’ (CFOA Policy) I&MCS
11 FIA guidance on the changes to systems for compliance to BS 7273-4 I&MCS

Identify non technical training which would enhance members business such as I&MCS
Management Skills and Business Plan preparation

14 Implement and promote the new CFOA ‘Unwanted Fire Signals’ policy I&MCS
15 Continue to work with CFOA to maintain and update the CFOA policy I&MCS
16 Publish ‘Bottoms Up’ case studies to cover the main areas (healthcare, warehouse etc) I&MCS

Each objective was assigned to the appropriate PORTABLES SERVICING COMMITTEE
working group (Portables Servicing Committee, Installers This committee, chaired by Keith Goodwin, had been
