Dr. Madhusudan V. Atre—
Applied Materials India
Applied Materials India has the distinction of installing the world’s first SunFab
thin film line at Moser Baer Photovoltaic Ltd. at Greater Noida near New Delhi
for the mass-production of solar modules. Earlier in the year, Moser Baer announced
that its 40 megawatt thin film line has received the prestigious certification from
the Inernational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and is ready for production of
thin film photovoltaic modules. Global Solar Technology’s regional editor, Debasish
Choudhury recently had a tete-a-tete with the man of the moment, Dr. Madhusu-
dan V Atre, president of Applied Materials India Pvt. Ltd.
Tell us about Applied Materials and
Applied Materials India.
Applied Materials has a broad portfolio
ranging from innovative equipment, service
and software products for the fabrication
of semiconductor chips, flat panel displays,
solar photovoltaic cells and flexible
electronics to energy efficient glass. We
apply ‘nanomanufacturing technology’ to
improve the way people live.
Applied Materials envisions India
as a site for future chip manufacturing
fabrication facilities called “fabs,”
primarily due to the presence of all
the synergistic elements that enable
a robust semiconductor industry.
Contributing factors are a large market
for semiconductors, expertise in chip
design and a highly educated talent pool.
We are ready to provide the necessary
infrastructure and equipment to support
new fab creation.
The India center provides solutions
to all Applied Materials business groups
across geographies. We enable faster
product development, flexible business
capability, and increased customer
support in the areas of product and
engineering design, engineering services,
product support, software development,
