in Canada
Steven Potter, an IED member currently residing in Canada, was selected
to receive the NPA’s 2009 Award for Professionalism for Best Networking
Professional – Career Achievement Award. The NPA (Network Professional
Association) recognises individuals who serve as role models in the network
computing community and are considered as industry luminaries by their peers.
Steven graduated with a degree in Engineering from Havering Technical
College and started his career as a Junior Programmer at Marconi Elliott
Avionic Systems Limited. He emigrated to Canada in 1980 and currently works
as a Senior Software Design Engineer for Spottek Systems in Nova Scotia.
His career was inspired by his teacher, Mr William R Broderick, who was a
pioneer in the use of computers in education. In the late 1960s, Mr Broderick
arranged for the Royal Liberty School to be one of the fi rst schools in the
world to have a computer on the premises.
The award was presented at the Interop conference in Las Vegas in May.
