Stop # 8
REDS MEADOW CAMPGROUND
Take a quick shower to wash off trail
dust at the free bathhouse fed by 103 F.
spring water. The eight private shower
rooms are dark, even in the daytime, so
bring a flashlight and your own soap.
Stop # 9
RAINBOW FALLS TRAILHEAD
Midday is the best time to hike to the
falls, after sunlight has cast off the shade.
Shining through the mist from a 101-foot
plunge by the middle fork of the San
Joaquin River, sunlight’s refraction causes a
glorious arching rainbow. One-way the hike
is 1.25 mile. A pool at the bottom offers a
refreshing swim.
Stop # 10

the Mule House Café, open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Two-hour mule rides are offered at the pack

is celebrating 50 years of business this
summer. ◆
