The NJMAA members continued to share their expertise at the NJMEA Conference in February at the East Brunswick Hilton. Donna
Serio presented: “Turn Around Teaching”; Peter Griffin presented, “Interviewing Techniques”; Bob Pispecky presented, “Transitioning from
Music Major to Teacher”; and Joe Akinskas, “A Cookie for Your Thoughts”. Another well presented “Job Fair” gave prospective teachers an
opportunity to go through the interviewing process.
As we go to print, Bob Pispecky is preparing a workshop presenting Dr. William Berz from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at
Rutgers University. The title of this workshop is “Higher Education Articulation”.
Our END of the Year Meeting will be held at the New Jersey Principal and Supervisors Headquarters on June 5, 2009. The workshop
will be presented by members of the NJPSA staff. The focus of this workshop will be “Leader Development”. The workshop will be facili-
tated by our president, Robert Frampton. Our last meeting of the year always proves to be special. Please check our website,
http://www.njmaa.org for more information about this special workshop.
The success of our program depends on the members. We continue to see the veteran administrators as well as many new faces. If anyone
in the NJMEA membership has within their district a supervisor, administrator, facilitator or coordinator who does not have a music back-
ground, please encourage them to join our organization and attend our meetings. The NJMAA membership can serve as an invaluable
resource to help the non-music administrator deal more effectively with music teachers, and to more effectively meet the needs of the music
program.
Please check our website for any updated information about NJMAA and its activities.

Our most recent general membership meeting was held on Friday, February 20th during the NJMEA Conference and I am pleased to
report that it was every bit as enlightening as we hoped it would be. Our guest speaker was Roma K. Oster, Esq. Specializing in elder law,
Oster allowed the meeting agenda to be set by the questions of those attending and all agreed that the meeting was informative and pro-
ductive, time well spent. We appreciate Oster’s willingness to meet with us and sincerely thank her for sharing her expertise.
Our next general membership meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at “The House by the Sea” in Ocean
Grove, NJ. As they have done for many years, Alyn and Sally Heim are offering their charming ocean front hotel as our meeting site and we
thank them for their gracious hospitality. It is a terrific place to hold a meeting.
At this meeting we will welcome NJMEA President-elect William McDevitt as our guest. As active and vibrant organizations must do,
NJMEA has undergone some changes in the past few years and Bill very kindly accepted an invitation to meet with the retirees to bring us
up-to-date on some of the organizational and operational changes that have been implemented. There have been some new initiatives and
we will ask Bill to speak about them as well. No doubt he has been giving serious thought to his term as President and we hope to have him
share his vision with us and then answer any questions we might have. At the conclusion of the meeting, we will continue our custom of
heading out to a local restaurant for social time and a hearty lunch. So please mark your calendar and plan to join Bill and your retired col-
leagues for this final meeting of the year.
This is my final letter to you as president of NJRMEA. The two years have zipped by and I would like to thank the members of the
executive committee for their continuing help and support. They are Paul Oster, President-elect; Marion Constable, Secretary; Bill Shoppell,
Treasurer; Winston Hughes, Dorian Parreott, Bill Workinger, Jim Lenney, and Carl Wilhelm. We will soon welcome Dr. Christine Sezer to
our executive committee and look forward to having her considerable expertise and experience available to NJRMEA. Also, I would be neg-
ligent if I didn’t note that Marion has decided to relinquish the responsibilities of being our secretary. Her colleagues on the executive com-
mittee thank her sincerely not only for the conscientious manner in which she discharged the duties of secretary, but also for the many, many
years of service to our association. She is a remarkable woman. Finally, on July 1, 2009, Paul Oster will assume the responsibilities of President
of NJRMEA. Be assured that the association is being left in very capable hands and I look forward to working with Paul during his term as
President.
