in us 110% and being my best friend.” If she
does something foolish, she says her mom
helps her learn from it, try to fix it and go on.
She fights for what she believes; even if she
fights alone. “When I have kids, I’d like to be
just half the mom she is!”
She has a special sense of balance about her
most treasured “idols”, and the reason she
looks up to them. “It would be Rob Gage and
Leslie Steele. No matter what happens, their
fault or not, they just get up and go back at it
again. There is something to be said about that
resilience and tenacity,” she says. “Also, Princess
Diana! She was such an amazing person even
when things were so sad for her. She ‘cared’
for others more than herself, had a purpose in
the world, and certainly raised two wonderful
sons. THAT is something to be really proud
of at the end of the day; not a bad way to be
remembered.”
There are so many people she has to be thankful
to. First, to her dad, Jeff, her grandmother, also
her mom, Patricia. Then Hap, of course, Jim
and Lisa Mitchell. “I really really miss Jim. He
was my greatest supporter and would just laugh
and say ‘get the heck up and git on’ when things
got tough. I loved him for that! Holly Scapa,
Leslie, of course, Rob, Tracy, Kathy, Ronnie A,
Lucy, Karen…I just know I am leaving some
people out, and I am so sorry if I did!”
She says the best “lesson” she ever got was
from Rob Gage. “If your goal is to get the
Sportsmanship Award, it means you are not
clear about losing and losing too much is
never good. You should be a good sport all the
time, winning or losing!! Let that Award go to
someone who is having some bad luck and is a
good sport about it anyway!”
Ahead for her is the dream of being Rookie
of the Year at some point in the near future,
and also following her passion into the Grand
Prix ring. She will get there for sure; she has
blazed a path for herself where people see a
quality worth supporting…horses and rides
will follow, as they always have.
