COWRA HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
WESTERN REGION HSC DANCE STUDY DAY 2012
On Tuesday 8 May, Cowra High School held the annual Western NSW HSC Dance study day and workshops. Students studying Dance from Years 11 & 12 came from Orange, Dubbo, Bathurst and Kelso High Schools.
The day was organised by Cowra High School Dance Teacher, Alison Buckley.
The students were split into two groups: Year 11 started with a combination of Pilates, Tai Chi and a Yoga class. This was conducted by Dance HSC marker Jayne Evans, which was beneficial and enjoyable to all that participated.
Year 12 started with interview and examination procedures, presented by Mr Kim Peade from Sydney.
After the examination procedures we all
participated in a composition workshop. Again we were split into two groups.
After a quick break Year 11 & 12 joined for ‘appreciation’, by viewing a short piece of work by choreographer Nacho Duato and then participating in a fun group quiz.
After our lunch break we all joined together in the school hall for a safe dance and performance class with current dancer and choreographer, Alison Plevey. The day was extremely valuable for both Year 11 & 12 students and enjoyable for every dancer who participated.
We would like to thank our school for hosting this special event ~ HSC markers Mr Kim Peade and Mrs Jayne Evans; our regional Arts Council for funding this event; Dianne Reichelt, Western Regional Arts Consultant; Ms Kerrie O’Dea; and Mrs Alison Buckley for organising the second HSC study day for the Western region.

det.nsw.edu.au CAMDEN VISIT
Preparations are well under way for Cowra’s visit to Camden High School to contest the 41st running of the Montgomery Shield. This year Cowra will travel to Camden on Wednesday 30 May and return on Friday 1 June ~ students will be billeted for the duration of the visit.
Teams have now been selected and training is underway. All notes and money need to be returned to the front office by next Wednesday 23 May. Students who do not meet note return deadlines may be culled from the trip.
Any student who wishes to request a particular Camden student to billet them must formally request this in writing to Mr Johnstone ~ note that we do not accept billet requests to stay with another Cowra High School student as these are too difficult to match up with host families.
Any queries should be directed to Mr Johnstone.
THE SCIENCE EXPERIENCE
An invitation is extended to all Year 9 & 10 students to be introduced to some of the wonders of science & technology and perform interesting experiments in university laboratories.
See the poster outside the Science staffroom, talk to your Science teacher or see Mr Muhling.
