The Two Of Us : Judy Cassab and John Seed

The Two of Us brings together a showcase of works by one of Australia’s most celebrated and prolific artists Judy Cassab and her Sculptor son John Seed. This Cowra Regional Art Gallery exhibition is presented in association with the 2010 Cowra Festival of International Understanding and the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary.

The 2010 Calleen Art Award and Central West Regional Artists Award.

The Calleen Art Award is an acquisitive award for painting and open to artists across Australia. It was established in 1977 through the support of Cowra resident and art patron Mrs. Patricia Fagan OAM. During the past 33 years with the support of the Calleen Trust the award has grown in significance as a national art award, with prize money now worth $12,000 to the winner.

The Central West Regional Artists Award is a non acquisitive award for painting and drawing. It was established in 2009 by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery in partnership with the generous support of a private donor. The award is open to artists living in the local government areas of Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan, Lithgow, Mid-Western Region, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Wellington. The 2010 award includes prize money of $2,000 for the winner.

A Peoples Choice Award worth $500, donated by the Friends of the Gallery will be announced at the end of the exhibition.

The invited Judge for 2010 is Professor Amanda Lawson Dean, Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Wollongong. Amanda has over 20 years experience working in the visual arts, and lectures in the areas of curatorial practice, and art history and theory. She has been director of several arts organizations including the Crafts Council of NSW, and from 1998 – 2004 Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.

Friday 16 April commencing at 6.30pm.

The announcement of the 2010 winners will take place at the official opening of the exhibition. The exhibition will be opened by Cr Bill West Mayor, Cowra Shire Council.

29 May to 4 July 2010 Strike a Pose … with Lee Lin Chin

From mini skirts of the 1960’s, to the bohemian fashions of the late 1970’s, this vibrant, colourful and quirky exhibition explores the glamorous world of Australian Fashion. A National Archives of Australia touring exhibition, supported by Visions of Australia, a Commonwealth Government Program.

“The Friends” is a volunteer organisation formed to support the Cowra Regional Art Gallery, and operates as a committee of Cowra Shire Council. Meetings are held on the first Friday of each month at 5.30 pm in the Multipurpose room adjacent to the Gallery except when the date clashes with a Gallery Opening night. All welcome.
