Marella: The Hidden Mission

T

he occasion of the Official Opening of the Marella exhibition at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery on Saturday 6th February, was an interesting and thought provoking afternoon, and those present enjoyed the wonderful exhibition

which included works from internationally acclaimed artists.

Curator Zona Wilkinson explained the background of the exhibition which tells

the story of the Marella Aboriginal Mission Farm situated at Kellyville, from the 1940s to 1980s. The artists in the exhibition were selected as representative of areas that were relevant to the lives of the Marella Mission residents, including Moree, Tinga, Dubbo, Sydney, and Cowra.

experiences in Harry’s early life, and how he saw the life he was forced to live in the early years of Erambie Mission. Two of the artists who were present at the opening - Jake Soewardie and Nyree

WORKSHOPS for CHILDREN

D

uring the last week of the January 2010 school holidays, The Cowra Regional Art Gallery conducted print, painting, art and sculpture workshops for children in the Multi Purpose room adjacent to the Gallery.

Artists Lucy Buttenshaw (painting) and Jacqueline Perry (print and sculpture) each worked with two age groups who all seemed

ARTS OUT WEST Art Forum.

Co-ordinator Tracy Callinan conducted an Art

Forum in the MP room 17 Feb. 2010. The forum was well attended by a good cross-section of interests, who were offered a great deal of worthwhile information about Arts Out West and what they ‘actually do’ - including links to the media, training, & grant availability. They work with 12 councils, many other contacts,

and are particularly concerned with Young People, Art and Health, Creative Industries and Aboriginal work. To conclude those present (below) formed groups to prioritize the perceived needs of the community. Page 1  |  Page 2  |  Page 3  |  Page 4
