island’s largest lagoon. A special programme,
the “Bubble Maker”, also allows children
from eight years upwards to experience the
thrill of diving in the pool under the profes-
sional care of a qualified instructor.
Our next hotel visit was Tamassa, which
is the latest edition to the Naiade Resorts
portfolio. It stands at the end of a long
avenue of mature coconut palms at Bel
Ombre, one of the most unspoilt areas of
south-west Mauritius. With four swimming
pools and an unusual restaurant divided
into three areas, this hotel gave a truly
Mauritian experience. This was to be our
home for the first night, where we had a fan-
tastic meal before going to bed.
Following a great night’s sleep we went
on to see the Sugar Beach Hotel, located
on the leeward west coast of Mauritius. It
is well placed for the nearby commercial
centres of Port Louis and the Marlin Fishing
Clubs of Black River. Dinnertime provides
a special event every evening for children,
with a selection of menus, buffets and
barbecues. At every restaurant and bar we
were met with a refreshing drink which
helped the long walk around the large hotel,
with its sister hotel, La Pirogue, just next
door.
We then rushed off to the Sofitel L’Imper-
ial Resort & Spa in Flic en Flac, a family
hotel with lots of facilities, including a
beautiful beach and large swimming pool.
Here we had a lovely lunch before going on
to our next hotel, the Sands Resort. Here
you can create your own perfume in the spa,
where the recipe is kept so you can order it
at home.
We then checked into The Maradiva
Villas Resort & Spa, before going back to the
Sands for dinner. In my room I was able to
sit in my own private pool. It was one of my
favorite hotels; quiet, luxurious and the bed
was to die for.
After breakfast we visited Port Louis for Top: One & Only Le Saint Geran. Middle: the group with Sega dancers and quad biking at Domaine de L’etoile. Bottom: InterContinental
