Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Social and Behavioral Health (tenure-track)
at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Department of Biostatistics
The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is recruiting for an academic position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the Department
of Biostatistics with a joint appointment at the Department of Social and Behavioral Health. The appointee’s responsibilities will include collaborative research,
independent research, and teaching applied biostatistics.
Qualifications: Applicants must (1) possess a doctoral degree in Biostatistics/Statistics or a related field, (2) have a strong research potential (3) be familiar with all
stages of survey methodology and related statistical methods, e.g., multilevel modeling (mixed or hierarchical linear modeling), models for longitudinal designs, missing
data methods, latent variable modeling, sampling weights, propensity scores, and (4) have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially with students and faculty
with various levels of exposure to statistical methods. Experience with and interest in research focused on the design, analysis and reporting of social and behavioral
sciences studies related to health care and public health research is essential. Experience with group randomized clinical trials and interest in teaching biostatistics to
non-specialist audiences are highly desirable. Candidates with an interest in cancer research are encouraged. It is expected that applicants have a proficiency in using
statistical software packages and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Function: This position will provide support, consultation and collaboration for multidisciplinary teams of researchers specializing in various aspects of social and
behavioral health and cancer research. The candidate will provide consultation on statistical methods for experimental, quasi-experimental and non-experimental
research designs, including observational studies. The candidate will be expected to interface with researchers at other sites and to collaborate with others in writing
grant proposals and articles for publication. The successful candidate will be expected to provide brief consultations, to act as a co-investigator on research grants,
and to develop their own research program.

The Department of Biostatistics (http://www.pubinfo.vcu.edu/biostatistics/) at VCU is a major research and teaching department in the School of Medicine, with
15 full-time faculty members. There is active collaboration with many faculty members in other departments and centers of the School of Medicine and Virginia
Commonwealth University. The Department of Social and Behavioral Health (http://www.behavioralhealth.vcu.edu/) at VCU has multiple externally funded research
projects involving various aspects of health behavior and the social context of healthcare outcomes. The Massey Cancer Center (http://www.massey.vcu.edu/) at VCU
is one of the nation’s NCI-designated cancer center offering outstanding opportunities for research.
