ith Hinkley Point C nuclear powerstation now given the go-ahead and the new Theresa May led UK Government seeming
to be behind the HS2 project, big infrastructure is back.
Couple this with the announcement of a new runway at Heathrow and Crossrail 2, the continued investment of Highways England on major road projects and you surely have the equation for a much larger adoption of big technology?
Well to find out how the industry is feeling about the role of major projects and the adoption of technology and innovation, Finning News spoke to those in the know at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), Construction Equipment Association (CEA), and the Construction Plant Hire Association (CPA).
We also took a look at what main strategic alliance contractors Balfour Beatty and VINCI Construction had to say about technology, in their recent headline grabbing ‘Innovation for the Future – Better delivery of Mega Projects’ white paper.
Having worked together since 2008, both businesses are heavily involved in UK Infrastructure, winning Smart Motorway packages, bidding for HS2 and working on Crossrail.
“
IF EVERYONE CAN COME TOGETHER TO DEVELOP A MORE STRATEGIC APPROACH TO MANAGING INNOVATION, THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY CAN REALISE THE HUGE POTENTIAL IT CAN OFFER.
