Productive Family


In 1947 Jack McCabe bought a lorry to supply stone to the local community from the Mileriver quarry in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, starting a family business that decades later is run by grandson John McCabe, Director of McCabe Earthworks Ltd.


John still has his grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit and vision, as Finning News discovered when we spoke to him about his business and reasons behind becoming the first in the UK and Ireland to invest in the latest Cat®


352F XE and Cat 336F XE high performance excavators.


John: “Being a family run business we are in full control of making our own investment decisions and thus spend a great deal of time on analysing our productivity and profitability.


“Having worked in the quarrying sector for decades, we also have the practical knowledge


you need to understand the impact of the harsh environments in which mobile equipment has to operate.


“So when we heard about the launch of the Cat 352F XE and its sister product the Cat 336F XE, we analysed the difference in performance from the standard non XE variants.


With both machines also equipped with Cat Production Measurement technology, we knew the XE models would deliver increased productivity and profitability over their proposed lifecycle.”
