Wireless, portable gas monitor announced H
oneywell has launched the MicroRAE gas monitor, its fi rst wireless four-gas monitor that operates with all major wireless communications protocols, including Bluetooth, Mesh, GPS, and Wi-Fi. The MicroRAE also can be paired with an intrinsically safe smartphone (available from Honeywell) to transmit gas readings over a cellular network.
“Extending wireless gas monitoring
capabilities to include the broadest range of communications platforms in a single device will enable companies with wireless and non-wireless infrastructures to reap the benefi ts of real-time monitoring and remote safety management,” says the fi rm’s Thomas Negre. For those that already have a Wi-Fi
or mesh network, MicroRAE will extend their capabilities by ensuring continuous
software. And for customers that don’t have a wireless network, MicroRAE gives them a way to start experiencing the benefi ts of real-time, wireless gas monitoring without the cost and perceived complexity of setting up a network. The MicroRAE monitors H2S, CO,
O2 and combustible gases (LEL) in
its standard four-gas confi guration. There is also a sensor confi guration of LEL, O2
, CO and HCN available,
wireless coverage; for example, when a worker goes beyond the network range or otherwise can’t connect to the network, the worker’s smartphone will continue sending gas monitoring data, location and Man Down status to the real-time monitoring
making the unit suitable for a wide range of applications including waste water treatment, manufacturing, utilities and telecommunications, fi refi ghting, construction, petrochemical/chemical, confi ned spaces and various industries with toxic and fl ammable gas hazards. ■

Going beyond flameless explosion venting D
owntime is lost time – and it is also boring. This is why the busy engineers at Rembe are constantly
working to develop new products. They love fi nding answers to their customers’ unsolved problems. Recent innovations include sound insulation solutions that are integrated into explosion safety
products, e.g. for mills or similar plants, and devices for protecting
suction lines in pneumatic
conveyors. Both these areas are top priorities in various industries. The former is particularly of interest for plants located close to residential areas, or other buildings where noise reduction is a major issue.

Until now, suction lines have been protected using air fi lters to prevent the entry of particulate contaminants and heavy non-return valves or explosion isolation valves, which lead to a considerable loss of pressure. A
modifi cation to the Q-Rohr changes all that: the fi lter and isolation valve can simply be replaced by the Q-Rohr – a more cost-effi cient solution both in
terms of purchase price and maintenance. However, the specialists in Brilon also
lead the fi eld in areas other than explosion safety for bulk materials. The Q-Rohr is the fi rst fl ameless explosion venting product to be certifi ed for use with metal
dusts in accordance with DIN EN 16009. In addition, it can also be used to protect gas applications and LNG or dual fuel engines in the case of an explosion. The special mesh fi lter that is used
in the Q-Rohr effi ciently cools down any fl ames, preventing both fl ames and pressure from emerging and ensures particulate retention. The typical increase in pressure and noise that accompanies an explosion is reduced to an almost imperceptible minimum, thus protecting both humans and machinery. In addition to the special stainless steel mesh fi lter, the Q-Rohr has an explosion vent with an integrated signalling system that alerts the process control system when the explosion vent has opened. ■
