Sundog Energy sold to Photon Energy
hoton Energy, the Reading-based independent designer, supplier and installer of solar PV systems, is on the acquisition trail, having acquired the assets of Sundog Energy of Penrith. Following Sundog Energy’s decision to go into voluntary liquidation, a contract was signed on Thursday 10 March, under which Photon Energy acquired the Sundog Energy name and goodwill, assets and operation and maintenance (O&M) services with immediate effect.
P
Photon Energy will be moving the Sundog business to Lancaster and will be taking on key staff to fill the roles of business development manager and contract installers.
Jonathan Bates, director and general manager of Photon Energy said: “Ever since the government announced a massive cutback in support for solar photovoltaics (PV) last year, the market has been in turmoil, and I see no early end to this. “We are delighted to have acquired Sundog Energy, one of the first commercial PV companies in the UK. Sundog has an incredible track record stretching back over 20 years and has installed some very high profile projects in that time, including the iconic PV installation at Kings Cross station. Although Sundog has continued to trade
strongly, given the adverse conditions facing the sector, its directors have taken the decision that it is time to move on. “Although Photon Energy has been very focused on new build commercial projects, we are steadily growing our retrofit business as well as our O&M offering; the acquisition of Sundog will enhance our capacity in these areas.”
Toshiba’s VRF lands second major industry award
T
oshiba’s ground- breaking VRF system, SMMS-e, has won its second top industry award this year, being crowned Air Conditioning Product of the Year in the ACR News Awards 2016. The company was
presented with the award at a glittering event held alongside the ACR Show at the NEC, after SMMS-e came out top in the keenly fought category.
The judges said that a host of innovations in technology and controls put the system ahead in this highly competitive sector, delivering unrivalled energy efficiency and reducing running costs for end users. It is the only VRF in the market with all outdoor units exceeding 7 ESEER (European Seasonally Adjusted Energy Efficiency Rating).
David Dunn, Toshiba director and general manager, said: “We are delighted that SMMS-e has again been recognised for its outstanding technology and performance. This second independent endorsement serves to underline the excellence of the product and its role in contributing to the challenge facing the industry to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.”
