WMS CAN BENEFIT BUSINESSES OF ALL SIZES Y

the benefits warehouse management software (WMS) can bring to your business. Yet many small business owners are often reluctant. Optima provides WMS across the UK and Europe and retains many of its original customers, underlining its policy of forming long term relationships and developing software along with its clients’ needs. Software advances mean that systems are now able to adapt and adjust as a firm grows. Neil Bennet answers some key questions:

ARE MORE COMPANIES ENQUIRING ABOUT WMS? I’ve noticed that there has been an increase in the number of new business enquires, mostly from start-ups wanting to compete with the bigger distribution warehouses and see WMS as a way of doing this. Since the 2008 recession it seems that more people have started up their own business and these are getting to the stage where they feel WMS could benefit them.

WHAT DO SMALL BUSINESSES FEAR? Typically there is an initial fear of change or a belief that their company is just too small for to install WMS. I’ve noticed that

technologies. It can help to save time thanks to automatic emails, client web portals for running reports, barcode scanning for accurate picking and integration to automate and remove errors from manual data entry. When it comes to selecting a WMS we try to help a client to free-up more time by automating some routine processes.

CAN WMS GROW AS WE EXPAND? Some of the WMS solutions we have installed started out as a simple, single user system but then expanded to a multi-user package over multiple sites with integrated client web sites, integration to couriers for label printing and to ecommerce marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon and Magento.

many companies believe it will be too expensive and worry about not having the expertise to install and run the software but that’s why we focus on the specific needs of each company from the outset so that we can offer a personally tailored package to suit it and there are no nasty surprises further down the line.

HOW CAN I BENEFIT FROM INVESTING IN WMS? Essentially a good WMS can be a tool to help smaller business compete and win new clients due to more advanced

HOW WOULD YOU ADVISE ANYONE CONSIDERING WMS? I would advise both large and small companies to make sure they know exactly what they want out of WMS otherwise they could be disappointed and out of pocket. So they need to be clear in their mind what they want to achieve and how software can help them do so.
