It is a season beckoning for performanc- es under clear skies and surfside culinary festi- vals. This city’s coastal backdrop and casual lifestyle is a natural fit for artists of all mediums—be they visual or performing—creating a community where the arts are integrated into everyday life.

Artist Paul Gavin

Residents and groups have cultivated an environ- ment where the arts are accessible and their education encouraged. Shakespeare, symphony and string-centric performances, alongside art and craft shows, draw the region’s finest artists who often share the stage with local students. These young scholars are professionals in their own right. Dana Point is home to the county’s premier, public arts school—SOCSA, the South Orange County School of the Arts—a magnet for high school students with an art aptitude. These gifted, budding artists put on 100 showcases annually, from musical theatre, opera and dance to video, photography and art exhibitions. With professional and developing talents and an array of venues, residents and visitors alike can experience a vibrant arts scene all year long in Dana Point.
