46 MILITARY OFFICER AUGUST 2015
A new website and personalized content are among changes MOAA is making to deliver more relevant information and benefi ts to members. By Kathy Partain
“One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.” This inspirational quote by Lewis
Carroll hangs in my office and serves as a daily reminder of my personal pledge as a MOAA staff member to never stop serving the military families MOAA rep- resents. It’s a pledge that aligns closely with the association’s promise to its members to protect and defend their in- terests. MOAA has stood by this promise for more than 85 years, and while it has not changed, many other things about MOAA have. In fact, MOAA has grown from 63 of- ficers in 1929 to a powerful advocate of more than 380,000 members today. And while this growth greatly has increased MOAA’s clout and contributed to many legislative successes on your behalf, it also has resulted in a diverse member- ship with a wide variety of needs and expectations. Meeting (and exceeding) these needs and expectations for each and every member — from the newly commissioned second lieutenant to the World War II officer to the surviving spouse — is essential. A one-size-fits-all membership experience cannot and will not define MOAA’s future success. In a world of information overload, it’s critical MOAA captures your attention by engaging with you in meaningful ways, delivering greater member benefits, and communicating in a more personal and
relevant manner. In the coming weeks and months, you’ll see changes that will allow us to do just that, including: A brand-new www.moaa.org. Whether you’re a junior officer, fully retired, or somewhere in between, you’ll be able to quickly find information relevant to your stage of life and career with intuitive navigation features and new dropdown menus designed especially for your de- mographic or targeted to your interests. Logging in to the MOAA website will give you full access to MOAA’s exclusive members-only resources, so be ready with your MOAA credentials. Personalized content delivered when you want it. Later this year, we’ll introduce a new MOAA e-newsletter — one that is built just for you. Really! You’ll be able to tell us what topics you’re interested in and how often you want to hear from MOAA. Over time, our content will become more and more relevant to your needs. But we’ll need your help. Watch for a request this fall to update your reader preferences. These are just a couple of ways in
which we are striving to meet your needs. To remain strong and grow as an organiza- tion, we will continue to evolve in order to ensure you — as well as the entire MOAA membership — are well served. After all, all that is really worth doing is what we do for you.
