Navitron harnesses the power of solar for schools across the UK
within just twelve years, allowing schools to cut emissions while providing extra funding through lower energy bills and revenue generated from incentives. “More importantly, though, they are also a
valuable education tool in terms of communicating the benefits of sustainability to students through use of a working example of renewable technology in their own school.” One school that has benefitted from
The Rutland and Stamford Mercury O

is urging schools across the country to consider solar energy. Stephen Knight, Commercial Director for
Navitron, said: “Following from last year’s government recommendations that every school in the UK become sustainable by 2020, it’s important that decision-makers understand that renewable technologies can not only cut costs and carbon footprints, but also can be used to impress upon pupils the impact they have on the planet and that they can contribute to making change. “Solar panels, for example, are a long-term

Navitron’s solar expertise is Langham School in Oakham, Rutland – which had a sixty-panel solar PV system installed during March 2014. As a result, the panels are generating 12960kwh of energy each year, saving the school £2,600 annually and reducing its carbon footprint by 7361 tonnes per year. Janet Lord, Headteacher at Langham Primary,
commented: “We’ve used the installation as a way of educating our pupils about solar efficiency. Not only have we held assemblies to launch the project and keep up excitement throughout, but we’ve also put together a final display of photographs showing how it was the installed and what it looks like on the roof.” With a number of installations completed for
schools throughout the UK, Navitron offers a complete solution for funding, design and installation of green energy systems. In addition to providing free feasibility studies,
assessments and a dedicated project manager, Navitron also works with schools to provide educational information for students, including a free solar panel display for students to study, as well as a free usage monitor located in an accessible area that pupils can use in their studies to monitor the performance of the installation. Navitron offers a wide range of solar
panels from the world’s top manufacturers, all installed by highly-trained and Microgeneration Certification Scheme accredited installers – meaning installations are eligible to earn government incentives through the Feed-In Tariff.

They can also scale their IT provision up or down in line with student numbers – preventing expenditure on unused capacity. The Zynstra solution allows schools to pay for their IT support on a
monthly or annual fee based on their needs, removing the need for up front capital spend. In addition, it provides ongoing automatic IT support and a fully refreshed ICT environment every 3 years. As a hybrid IT solution, schools also have the flexibility to choose which information they store on-premise, and what they share on the public cloud. Roger Sowerbutts, VP EMEA at Zynstra, said: “We are proud that working
with both partners and education customers we can offer an affordable, efficient solution that provides reliability, future-proofing and security.”
