Rugby School embarks on innovative coaching programme
One of the country’s most prestigious schools, which revolutionised the sporting world nearly 200 years ago, is taking an exciting and innovative step towards its teaching and learning approach. Rugby School believes education is all about transforming lives and nurturing
individual talent and in its aim to keep the best of the past and combine it with the best of the future, has teamed up with coaching company Graydin. From September 2015, Graydin – which is being hailed for revitalising teaching across
the UK - will deliver several coaching programmes to all teaching staff over a period of two years. Coaching encourages individuals to deeply explore who they are, what they want,
and how to live out their passions. Graydin and its services bring a positive approach to improving leadership,
communication and wellbeing in schools and the company prides itself on having created a common-coaching language that is being used across all ages, demographics, roles, and genders in the school community. Rugby headmaster, Peter Green, said: “Rugby is a school built on tradition but always
looking to the future. “Through this, it has built a strong reputation for its pioneering approach to the
curriculum and Graydin’s approach to coaching fits entirely within this strategy. “The partnership with Graydin will ultimately enable us to deliver on an independent,
sustainable basis, a truly versatile, progressive CPD programme, ensuring our teachers continue to deliver the best teaching and learning experience for our pupils.”

Survey asks schools if they are ready for budget squeeze
School business managers, headteachers, bursars and governors in schools across England are being urged to take part in the third annual National School Procurement Survey (NSPS15). The survey – run by the national
register of education suppliers
Incensu.co.uk - will aim to provide a national picture of how schools are preparing for a predicted budget squeeze between now and 2020. The squeeze is expected to arise from a combination of increases in national insurance and pension contributions, rising pupil numbers and an anticipated government freeze on real terms funding increases. The survey will also add to the detailed national picture of school
procurement practices established by the 2013 and 2014 surveys. NSPS15, which runs until the end of July, is backed by Incensu partners the
National Association of School Business Management (NASBM), school support and resource service TheSchoolBus and Minerva Procurement Consulting. The National Association of Headteachers (NAHT) is also supporting the survey.
Incensu.co.uk founder Peter Melville, a school business director, said: “Last
year’s survey revealed that a lack of time and expertise was preventing schools from buying goods and services collaboratively - and easing pressure on tight budgets. “School budgets are no less pressurised a year on and there are fears that
money will become even tighter in the next 12 months so this survey will provide a real insight into whether schools are changing their procurement approaches to meet the financial challenges they face. “NSPS15 will also highlight what procurement training and support schools
need to help them address these significant budget challenges.” Results of NSPS15 - which will be completely anonymous - will be shared
with schools, professional associations, education policy makers, unions and education suppliers in the autumn.

GL Assessment and Lucid Research join forces to provide a comprehensive suite of SEND assessments
Lucid Research, a specialist provider of assessments for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), will form part of assessment publisher, GL Assessment. The combination of assessments from Lucid and GL Assessment will provide schools with a complete SEND assessment package that includes assessments for dyslexia, visual stress, memory, reading and cognitive development. Lucid provides a suite of highly reliable, digital assessments for use by
SENCOs in primary, secondary and special schools. GL Assessment aims to combine its assessments of speech and language, reading, cognitive ability, literacy and numeracy with Lucid’s respected portfolio to offer a broad portfolio of SEND assessments for all ages. Greg Watson, Chief Executive of GL Assessment, said: “Lucid’s SEND
assessments are a natural complement to our existing broad portfolio. The thousands of schools in the UK and overseas who are already familiar with our suite of assessments covering cognitive ability, subject progress and pupil engagement will now have access to a first-class set of SEND diagnostic assessments as well. I am looking forward to working with the Lucid team, including its founders, to develop their assessments further and make them even more accessible to schools in the UK and abroad.” Kevin Thomas, one of Lucid’s founders, said: “We’re proud of what
we’ve built at Lucid and the contribution we’ve made to identifying and supporting so many children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. We’re absolutely delighted that GL Assessment is now going to invest in our assessments and bring them to a wider audience than we have been able to reach, both at home and internationally.” Founded 20 years ago, Lucid works closely with universities and
leading educational and psychological practitioners to ensure the reliability and validity of its assessment tools. The company is based in Beverley, Yorkshire.
