inner harmony, we must accept every facet of our emotional experience. He witnessed the communist takeover in his home country of Vietnam in 1975 and survived persecution by government forces afterwards.

"Art is vital for me.

It is almost a religion. It means to believe in people, in life, in love. It is a response to what is beautiful and ugly. As an artist I do what I do for no other purpose than to express my feelings."

By 1989 he was finally able to immigrate to the United States where he pursued his artistic endeavors at the Art Institute of Southern California in Laguna Beach. The freedom and grace displayed in Tuan’s work can be more greatly appreciated by knowing how much he had to lose in order to gain his own personal freedom.

To understand their dynamic dimensionality, it is essential to view Tuan’s works in person. Only in the presence of these sculptures is one able to see them from all angles and realize how the artist must create the figure as a balanced whole.
