Col. Don “Mack” Laird, USAR (Ret), Life Member (joined 2011): During his time in the U.S. Army Reserve, Laird was also president of the Columbia, Mo., Chamber of Commerce; he re-

tired from the military in 2005 and continued his work with the Chamber until 2013. Today, he volunteers as a veteran mentor with the 13th Judicial Circuit Court Veterans Treatment Court, an alternative sentencing program. Laird is a member of the MOAA Mid-Missouri Chapter’s board of directors.

Lt. Cmdr. Robert B. Scearce II, USN (Ret) (joined 1998): Scearce began his military career on an ROTC scholarship at the University of South Carolina and later got a master’s in material

logistics management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. He served in various roles, including as casualty assistance calls offi cer during the USS Cole bombing. After retiring, Scearce continued to pursue engineering and received a master’s in systems engineering from the University of Virginia.

Capt. Lance Sholdt, USN (Ret), Life Member (joined 1980): Sholdt coordinates the Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care We Honor Veterans Program that recognizes the service of terminally

ill veterans through a bedside ceremony and pin presentation. In his military career, Sholdt was an entomologist and a member of the Medical Service Corps. He later worked at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., and today belongs to the Tucson (Ariz.) Chapter.

Capt. Peter Troedsson, USCG (Ret), Life Member (joined 2011): Prior to his retirement in April 2014, Troedsson was the Coast Guard liaison to the Offi ce of the Secretary of Defense.

This assignment was the culmination of a 30-year military career during which he served as a military fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and as chief of staff of the Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans. He serves on two committees of MOAA’s board of directors. MO
