PERFECT PALATE &Dine Redbird LA
114 East 2nd Street Los Angeles, CA 90012 (213) 626-1507
Located in downtown Los Angeles, Redbird is carved into one
of the city’s most historic edifices, inside the rectory building of Vibiana — a premier wedding, events and performing arts venue. Chef Neal Fraser along with restaurateurs Amy Knoll Fraser and Bill Chait have crafted a beautifully dynamic restaurant space with seating in the lounge, 24 seats at the wraparound indoor/outdoor bar, and a beautiful courtyard as the main dining room with a state of the art retractable ceiling. Guests are able to tailor their experience to enjoy Fraser’s refined yet approachable modern American menu, a robust cocktail program by Julian Cox and Tobin Shea, as well as an unexpected wine list curated by Diane Pandolfini. General manager Christian Phillipo helms the floor with a refined and comfortable approach to service. Chef Neal Fraser’s menu features seasonal, shareable plates ranging from snacks to large format dishes as entrees. Fraser presents quintessentially composed dishes that showcase his penchant for ambitious flavors and exacting techniques. At the bar, renowned barman Julian Cox and bar manager Tobin Shea concocts a series of well-balanced cocktails, most of which are available on tap, with a menu of bespoke renditions of the classics. The wine list will decidedly not feature many of the usual suspects, nor are there many California vintners. Instead, guests can find an eclectic variety of carefully curated wines from around the world.
The ambiance echoes the space’s historic foundation by contrasting existing architecture with contemporary finishes. Designer Robert Weimer and architect Osvaldo Maiozzi together with Amy Knoll Fraser maintain the rectory building’s Spanish baroque details with a hand-painted ceiling by artist Guerin Swing and arched doorways. Other unique details include an original silver door that was gifted by the papacy in 1933, and commissioned works by ceramicist Adam Silverman and artist Nancy Baker Cahill. The space features new and found accent pieces that will flow from the lounge, around the bar and through the courtyard, spanning 1800 square feet inside and 1500 square feet outside. Redbird exudes a new elegance that simultaneously feels comfortable and timeless.
