Blessings to go

It was a cold Lent in Minnesota, but that didn’t stop Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Minneapolis, from offering drive- thru prayers. It was the congregation’s attempt to reach folks in a fast-paced culture, said Karl Jacobson, one of its pastors. A sign announced the prayers Wednesdays during Lent, 7 to 9 a.m. Dorothy Walholf (above) and other members bundled from head to toe when the temperatures hovered near zero and leaned into car windows to pray with those on the go. Karen Walhof, the church’s outreach director, said people wanted prayer about a variety of things—ill family members, those grieving, issues with children and global situations. After Lent, church leaders were deciding whether to continue the practice.
