up. Te 2006 centennial jubilee for Kountze’s present church home prompted some self-proclaimed history buffs to prepare for the celebration. “We were amazed at everything


we found,” said John Davis, a former history educator and librarian. “Tings weren’t quite organized, but at least [they] were there.” Members siſted, sorted and


reorganized decades of material; compiled a book; and created a per- manent display of the church’s story. Still, there was more to do. “So we stayed together,” Wood-


worth said. “We saw what we could give to future generations and decided we should stay on that mission.” For the 150th anniversary of the


church’s 1858 founding, the com- mittee recorded more than 100 video interviews with longtime members. It lobbied the state of Nebraska for a historical marker at the church. And it’s still scanning and digitally preserving records dat- ing back to the early days. Coun- cil minutes and newsletters were scanned, and records of baptisms, weddings and funerals were entered into a central spreadsheet.
