The United Nations has designated 2015 the International Year of Light – a worldwide initiative which aims to raise awareness about how light-based technologies can promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health. The International Year of Light will reach an audience of tens of millions, including scientists, industry leaders and members of the public all over the world. Havells Sylvania is part of a large consortium of sponsors including UNESCO, scientific bodies, unions, educational institutions, not-for-profit organisations, and private-sector partners from over 85 countries around the world. With its strong scientific, technological and design know-how, Havells Sylvania is keen to help showcase and celebrate the capabilities of light among a diverse and global audience comprising thought-


leaders and policy-makers, as well as members of the public. Light plays a vital role in our lives and is a cross-cutting discipline of science in the 21st century. It has revolutionized medicine, enabled international communication via the Internet, and continues to be central to linking cultural, economic and political aspects of the global society. enture Lighting, the premier innovator and industry leader of metal halide lighting solutions is set to extend its innovation to include the fast developing solid state lighting product area.

Director of Venture Lighting Europe since 1990, will lead the SSL business development effort around the world. Price began his Venture Lighting career while being an independent distributor in 1985, rising to lead the company’s UK and European business as Managing Director as it built its brand dominance. Prior to joining Venture, he spent 12 years with City Electrical Factors, including positions as branch manager, regional manager in the UK and general manager for Germany, and then worked as an independent distributor. In his new role, Keith will build a support team of Solid State Lighting product managers and design engineers, based at Venture Lighting offices and manufacturing centres around the world. “We are committed to bringing the finest SSL products to market around the world, and will shortly release an expanded product line that will enable our customers to pick the right technology, or blend of technologies, most appropriate
