Diameter gauges make 2,500 measurements per second

West Control Solutions has introduced the PlastX family of temperature controllers for plastics and rubber extrusion. An easy-to-use menu


features pre-populated setup fi elds with default param- eters for plastic applications. This, together with the removal of unnecessary options, ensures that confi guration is straight- forward and fast to implement, says West. The controllers provide both ‘heat only’ and ‘heat/ cool’ control in the same instrument. Units can be quickly converted to process indicators, reducing the need to stock multiple products for

Flexible production of PBL tube


Breyer has adapted its Topline and Ecoline tube extrusion systems to allow fl exible, cost effective production of cosmetic tubing. Plastic barrier laminate (PBL) tubes are made from a web laminate and have a visible side seam, in produc- tion runs typically above 100,000 tubes per order. Laminate fi lm is supplied to the tube manufacturer. High speed fi lm lines, side-seam- ers and printers allow economic mass production of such fi lm but the individual design for small orders is often not economical. Breyer has developed a special solution for this, based on its experience of extrusion systems for fl at fi lm and extruded tubes. The extrusion line, with a


working width of 1600mm, 800mm, 400mm or less, allows the production of slitted fl at fi lm with a fl exible confi guration of different layers for different tube diameters and lengths. EVOH, PA, PET and COC barrier layers are all possible, says Breyer. Properties like colour and haptics, which are very important for the fi rst impression of the tube product, can be easily adapted by using different polymers such as PET, PP, PA or PE.
