The race for a Royalex alternative offers promising new hull materials [ CANOES ]
Brave Canoe World
After plastics manufacturer PolyOne ceased Royalex production last spring, the paddling community went into a boat-buying frenzy. Outfitters bulked up their fleets while enthusiasts bought backups of favorite Royalex models. With the long-time favored hull material of whitewater and recreational canoes off the market, research and development teams have been working on developing a replacement material that will deliver similar qualities. Achieving the same durability, price point and ease of manufacturing hasn’t been an easy task—Canoeroots checks in with some top contenders. KAYDI PYETTE
