Jamaica is targeting UK growth DESTINATION WATCH

Jamaica targets smart TV users with 3D film

Te Jamaican Tourist Board is targeting potential visitors through their smart TVs, having teamed up with Te Travel App — an application pre-loaded into all new Samsung sets. Troughout 2015, Te Travel App will

feature a 3D film showcasing the island’s scenery and sights, making Jamaica the first destination to have 3D content placed within the application. Te tourist board has also teamed up

with a selection of operators to enable viewers to book directly via their TVs. Each month, the service will feature new Jamaica content and bespoke landing pages for a specific operator: Tropical Sky in January, Virgin Holidays in February, TUI in March and Tomas Cook in April. Te Travel App has the exclusive rights

to display travel content on the Samsung Smart TVs, 220 million of which have so far been produced worldwide with predicted growth of 70% by 2016. Te application was introduced to the UK in

March 2014, and has racked up over half a million downloads since launch. Elizabeth Fox, regional director UK &

Northern Europe for the Jamaica Tourist Board, said: “We’re always interested in innovative ways to target additional holidaymakers. Tis new platform will allow us to engage with viewers directly in their living room.” With UK arrivals for the first half of 2014

up 18% year on year, Jamaica is expecting a similarly strong 2015, thanks to increased hotel, air and cruise capacity. In December, Tomson Dream became the only UK cruise ship to home port in Montego Bay, while in winter 2015 Tomson Airways will launch the first Boeing 787 flights out of Wales, servicing the island from Cardiff. Meanwhile, new hotels include a

Marriott Courtyard in Kingston, planned to open in spring, and two new Hyatt resorts in Montego Bay — the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall and Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, which opened in December. visitjamaica.com
