he popularity of urban life has become a recent phenomenon in America. This is a change from the desire to live in the suburbs, which was spurred on in the 20's with the invention of the automobile and lead to the redevelopment of many cities. Urban life is desirable because of the easy access to restaurants, bars, and places to commune with friends and family. This is something artist Michael Flohr has known all along.

"My wife always says I have greedy eyes because once I see something, I can’t let it go. I have to paint it.”

Known for his paintings of famous and not-so- famous urban gathering places, Flohr is right at home with this new trend. Recently he has toured and painted some of America's favorite cities including New York, Louisville, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland. During his shows he has created a special body of oil on paper works that are as "snapshots" of the cities he is visiting. Some compositions are city landmarks and others are of his favorite drinks while socializing at a local bar.

"My wife always says I have greedy eyes because once I see something, I can’t let it go. I have to paint it,” Flohr states.

One benefit in Flohr creating such small pieces is that collectors who attend the shows have an opportunity to watch the piece come to life before them, from start to finish. Patrons are encouraged to bring in their favorite libation—a brandy, scotch or wine bottle — for Flohr to recreate in his signature style. Be it experimentation with color, subjects, canvas,
