loha 'aina, aloha kai is Hawaiian for love the land and love the sea.

In Hawaiian culture there is a primal connection to nature — to the land and the sea — a connection that comes from a spiritual as well as artistic center. Although a transplant, Roy Tabora moved to Hawaii in 1977 and has lived there ever since. Immediately, he felt at home and enlightened as if this was where he belonged. Like many islanders, nature is where it all begins, especially for the Hawaiians. In fact, they call themselves keiki o ka 'aina — children of the land. Born on June 18, 1956, Tabora continues the legacy of generations of artists who populate his family tree. Growing up surrounded by art and artists, his earliest memories are of watching the creative process in action. His lessons in the disciplines of drawing and painting began almost as early as he can remember. During his youth, he was directed by his favorite uncle, Rick Gonzalez.
