they manage to reach growth of 7%. This is a possibility in countries such as Sierra Leone, which has expanded mining a great deal in recent years.
The drive towards literacy and numeracy has improved levels of basic education all over the continent and raised the aspirations of the people. Education is seen as a key driver of economic growth as more people use their skills to find work in the developing urban areas. Foreign language skills are an important factor too, as countries seek to increase exports and other business interests with trading partners the world over.
Economic growth is strongly linked to urbanisation and more and more African people are moving to the cities. The number of those living in urban areas is expected to increase in line with economic growth. It has been estimated
that Africa will be largely urban by the year 2033. This also means that investment in infrastructure will be needed but there are African nations that are yet to put plans into place for this type of development.
There are some dangers to economic growth in Africa. It is thought that the general exploitation of workers will lead to problems and there is also a lack of innovation in some areas which could hold some countries back. There has been talk of creating a large free-trade region in Africa that operates with a single currency - although this is still a long way off.
