GET ON THE WATER

TOURING CANOE www.getonthewater.ca • Plans $70 / Kits $1,500

This canoe was designed to be built using cedar strip construction, sheathed inside and out with six- ounce boat cloth set in epoxy, producing a boat that is both light and a treat to look at. The boat tracks and maneuvers well, with good stability. The tumblehome hull shape also makes it great for solo paddling with the addition of a kneeling thwart. The canoe’s maximum beam is below the sheer line and is 33 inches. A cedar strip boat is a project that can be easily customized to suit the builder’s tastes with the addition of accent strips to give it a signature look that says, "This is my boat, built by me for my use."

The Cronje is ideally suited to paddlers who want to challenge big, open water by covering distance with ease. Fast lines and excellent tracking make it a joy to use. Cargo capacity isn’t compromised for speed and the canoe handles well both with a load and empty. Its lower profile means less wind drag on the water and lower weight on the portage trail. The Cronje is most at home in landscapes with large open lakes, like the famed Boundary Waters and Algonquin Park.
