Less expensive Ex e components can be mounted


in the combo box such as terminals and HMI’s. You can use easier to install Ex e glands to make your connections with the flexibility that additional glands can be added at a later stage if required. The boxes are simple to machine, have less screws to fasten and the combo box can be quickly accessed for installation and maintenance without having to open the Ex d enclosure. The biggest saving comes because you can now use a much smaller Ex d enclosure to house only the non Ex components. Once assembled and connected the Ex d enclosure should never need to be opened again greatly reducing the risk of compromising protection.
