Given the Swedish-American roots of Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kan., it was perhaps no surprise that Swedish retailer Ikea asked the school’s Chamber Choir to perform at the opening of its Merriam, Kan., store. Choir members performed “Du Gamla, Du Fria,” the Swedish national anthem.

Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, established Te German Institute at Wartburg College. Te institute “seeks to deepen and broaden Wart- burg’s cultural heritage and German connections,” said President Darrel Colson. German missionary Georg Grossman came to the U.S. in 1852 to found Wartburg as a teacher- training school.


Students can earn a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science in neu- roscience at Tiel College, Greenville, Pa., which now has a stand-alone department in neuroscience, a grow- ing field. Department chair Greg Butcher previously coordinated the neuroscience program at Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport.
